An Insider's Journey of China
2014 Rice Alumni
In October 2014, we accomplished another great journey to China with an in-depth look at contemporary developments by exploring Chinese history, economics and culture. The group consists of 43 faculty and alumni member, led by Rice University President David Leebron, First Lady Dr. Ping Sun and President of our office Nancy Li.
The trip started from Beijing, China's cultural and political heart, and then to Tianjin, the cradle and the current capital of contemporary industries and arts. Next, we went to Xi'an, the ancient capital for 1300 years, and Dunhuang, a gateway on the ancient Silk Road through which Buddhism, Islam and Christianity entered China. Followed was the financial center of China in Shanghai, paradise on earth Guilin and Oriental Pearl Hong Kong.
Some of letters from the travelers:
It was a pleasure meeting you and getting to know you. I want to thank you again for the journey through China especially exploring the history and society of the Chinese people. I came away from this trip looking at the country and the citizens at the completely different perspective. I look forward to future trips to China - I was definitely impressed at every turn. Thank you again for making this an incredible trip of a life time.
